We would like to congratulate our winemaker, Justin Rose, on being named the 2020 Virginia Wine Person of the Year! Justin received this recognition from his fellow peers who nominated and ultimately voted for him during the 2020 Virginia Governor’s Cup celebration held in Richmond on Tuesday, February 25th.
After receiving a “Past President” award for his time spent leading the Virginia Wineries Association (VWA) from 2015 – 2019, he was then surprised to be named “Wine Person of the Year,” by the current president of the Virginia Winery Association, George Hodson of Veritas Vineyards. This award is given annually by the VWA to a person (or persons) deserving recognition for service to the wine industry over the preceding year.
While serving as President of the VWA, Justin also participated on eight separate VWA committees, spearheaded the campaign to increase the association’s annual meeting to include a second day focused exclusively on technical winemaking, and also served as a member of the Legislative Collective which works on all Virginia Wine associated legislation.
We were also honored to pour our 2017 Cabernet Franc during the celebration, as a result of it receiving a Gold Medal in the 2020 Virginia Governor’s Cup Competition. Made from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes grown on our estate, the wine was aged in barrels for 20 months prior to bottling.
We would like to give a heartfelt congratulations to Justin for all of his hard work! Not only here at the Winery, but also for his hard work for our entire industry!

Do you enjoy the thought of traveling but worry about traveling alone and having to set your own itinerary? How about joining our winemaker, Justin Rose, in November 2021, for a Viking River Cruise that will take you from Zürich to Paris over a 12-day tour.
We will spend two full days in Zürich before embarking to visit the university town of Heidelberg; enjoy scenic cruising past the town of Sankt Goar, home of the Lorelei Rock, and through the Rhine Gorge, a UNESCO Site; taste Moselle Rieslings and visit the wine town of Bernkastel-Kues; discover Roman Trier; pay our respects at the Luxembourg American Cemetery. All while cruising the vineyard-flanked slopes and historic cities, to our final two-day stay in Paris.
